The urge to start fresh on May 16 is undeniable, yet there’s a risk that new chapters under the supermoon will be defined by familiarity rather than growth and evolution.

The New Moon in Taurus rises, urging patience and consideration. We are called to build on a foundation that we’ve already established rather than creating something out of nothing. The intentions we set now won’t be rooted in the firm soil of the earth, but planted within an open container. Before we can forge a new path, we must respect the process of slow growth and accept change as an inevitable factor on our journey.

Practical, enduring, and consistent energy surges, yet our ability to deliberate is compromised as our environment begins to shift. Taurus New Moons are usually rigid and determined, but this supermoon presents a challenge: starting strong when we have ideas but fewer hard conclusions.

Mercury, the messenger planet, is conjunct the Moon, but it is scorched by the Sun – too close to function with tight clarity, yet too far to share its power. Our direction may not be obvious, and while we may feel certain, our decisions may run on sensation rather than deep reasoning.

On May 17, Mercury emerges in Gemini, where it will meet Uranus, the planet of destabilization. Sparks of realization aid our communication and commitments when we are receptive to fresh information. But until this breakthrough, we must sit with open questions and explore our options rather than forcing life to make sense at a speed that feels convenient and linear.

Spirited, youthful, and expressive energy is introduced through the New Moon’s rulership: Venus in Gemini. The belief that every plan must begin with structural discipline is met with a growing desire for variety and curiosity.

The belief that real progress is following one consistent direction leaves no room for discovery and creative exploration. Life’s fluctuations are an important reminder that the road ahead of us rarely appears in fixed form – it is defined by our evolving interests, the people we meet, and the new spaces that energize us.

In the background of the New Moon, reactive Mars and vulnerable Chiron form a defensive conjunction. As we set our hearts on a new beginning, we may notice a wound surrounding our self-assertion. Yet Venus’ loving alignment with Mars and Chiron inspires heartfelt connection as an opening for healing.

Being witnessed by someone who believes in us – or offering our support to someone else in need – is how we learn to trust ourselves and leave our comfort zone when our next path finally appears.

Taurus

Self-renewal under the Taurus New Moon may sound superficial at first – like an altered presence or a changed wardrobe. But what this lunation asks of you runs far deeper…
